Prisco’s Week 3 NFL picks: Patriots sneak past Ravens, Aaron Rodgers gets revenge on Tom Brady, Buccaneers

It was a good start to my picks last week — which I’ll take into account how crazy Week 2 of an NFL season can be after the uncertainty of Week 1. The pairing week can be challenging.

I went 9-7 against the spread in our CBSSports Expert picks, 10-6 straight up and 3-2 with my best bets as part of the Pick Six Podcast. This brings my ATS record to 17-15, 17-14-1 straight and 8-3 with my best bets.

The best bets should have been 4-1, but the Rams fell asleep late and let the Falcons take the cover after dominating most of the game.

This happens. But if I can go 8-3 with the best bets every two weeks, I’ll take it.

This week features some great matchups, but it also features games where I think the line is a little off. I think I can use that to continue the hot start.

Thursday, 8:20 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime)

Selected game | Cleveland Browns vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The Browns are coming off a terrible home loss to the Jets, while the Steelers played little offense in the loss to the Patriots. These road games can be tough for a team on a short week. But the Browns haven’t looked great so far this season. They’ll win it, but it’s close.

Choose: Browns 24, Steelers 23

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are coming off a poor offensive performance against the Bucs, but the Panthers haven’t exactly turned it on either. The Saints defense will shut down Baker Mayfield and his offense in this one as Jameis Winston rebounds to play better. Saints get it.

Choose: Saints 24, Panthers 13

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Selected game | Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans

The Texans are playing back-to-back road games and the offense was poor last week in Denver. The Bears offense still hasn’t been good. This should be a low scoring game. But I think the Texans are the better team. They will win a defensive battle.

Choose: Texans 19, Bears 16

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Selected game | Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The Colts are a mess right now. They have a lot of injury problems, but it’s the offensive line that concerns them. The Chiefs have put up impressive numbers on offense and will do so here. Look for another good game from Patrick Mahomes as the Colts remain winless.

Choose: Chiefs 30, Colts 17

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Selected game | Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills

This is one of the best games of the week, with two 2-0 teams that can score. The Bills play on the road in a short week, which is an advantage for Miami. But this Buffalo team is riding high. The Dolphins defense was not good last week. The Bills defense was. That’s the difference.

Choose: Bills 30, Dolphins 20

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions

The Vikings were awful when they lost to the Eagles on Monday night. The shot was bad on both sides of the ball. But here they will get back on track. The Lions have played well so far this season, especially on offense, but this is their first road game. Minnesota’s offense will play well since it’s not a Monday night game, which happens to cripple Kirk Cousins. The Vikings get it.

Choose: Vikings 31, Lions 23

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens melted down in their loss to the Dolphins last week. The defense was terrible. But the Patriots haven’t done much on offense this season. This is their home opener so I think they will. Pats go to 2-1.

Choose: Pats 27, Ravens 26

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Selected game | New York Jets vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are staring 0-3 in the face if they lose to a Jets team coming off an impressive road win over the Browns. The Bengals have been off to a slow start the past two weeks, but I think that changes in this game. Look for Joe Burrow to get off to a fast start and open some big passes. The Bengals get it.

Choose: Bengals 31, Jets 19

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Tennessee Titans vs. Las Vegas Raiders

This is a game of two 0-2 teams in dire need of a win. The Titans are playing on a short week after being blown out by the Bills on Monday night. But the Raiders are coming off a brutal loss where they blew a big lead. The Raiders will be able to move the ball in the air against a Titans pass defense, which will let them pull out a close win.

Choose: Raiders 27, Titans 24

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are flying high behind the work of Jalen Hurts. He was outstanding as they posted a 2-0 record. But this is a road game in a short week. The Commanders are coming off a tough loss but I think they will hang on. It’s tight.

Choose: Eagles 27, Commanders 25

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Selected game | Los Angeles Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

This is a long trip for a team that doesn’t play well on the West Coast. The Jaguars defense against Justin Herbert is the treat for this game as Jacksonville is coming off a shutout of the Colts. The problem for Jacksonville will be if they fall behind and the Chargers unleash their pass rushers. Chargers get it, but it’s close.

Choose: Chargers 23, Jaguars 19

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Rams

Both teams are coming off wins last week to even their records. The Cardinals won with an amazing comeback, which could be the impetus to start this season. The Rams held Atlanta to a win, but they didn’t look great doing it. Even so, they are the best team. Rams defensive tackle Kyler Murray.

Choose: Rams 30, Cardinals 17

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are playing a second straight road game on the West Coast, which always tries — even if they got shut out west. The Falcons battled last week to rally against the Rams, but couldn’t. The Seahawks were lifeless against the 49ers on offense. The Falcons will hang around because the Seahawks aren’t good on offense, but Seattle will pull away slowly.

Choose: Seahawks 26, Falcons 20

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Selected game | Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Green Bay Packers

This is likely the last Aaron Rodgers-Tom Brady game unless they meet in the playoffs. These games are always a treat. Tampa Bay’s offense isn’t playing well with a lot of injuries, and this will be a tough game to try to do. Tampa Bay’s defense was very good. This should be a low-scoring game with the Packers pulling off a late upset.

Choose: Packers 21, Bucs 20

San Francisco 49ers (-1.5) at Denver Broncos

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, FuboTV)

Selected game | Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers

That will be Jimmy Garoppolo for the 49ers against a Denver defense that played well last week. It’s the offense in Denver that has been a problem. They didn’t do much last week against Houston, so what do you think they’ll do against a good 49ers defense? San Francisco will win Garoppolo’s first start of the season.

Choose: 49ers 24, Broncos 20

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN, FuboTV)

Selected game | New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Giants are 2-0 and tied for the division lead. They didn’t look good to get there, but the record is what it is. The Cowboys won in Cooper Rush’s first start as he played well. I think that carries over here. Cowboys win on the road to go to 2-1.

Choose: Cowboys 23, Giants 17
